Blog 1: Introduction
Hi! I'm Shelby and I'm from here in Lincoln and I've lived here all of my life. I live off campus right now with my parents and younger brother at home right now. My brother is going to be an 8th grader and so I'm the first of us going through this whole college experience thing. In high school I played Volleyball, Basketball, and was a thrower on the Track and Field team. Coming here now on the Track and Field team I'm really going to miss playing those other sports. I wanted to stay close to home and go to a big school and Nebraska has a really nice Track & Field program so this is why I stayed here for college. This is my first writing and college class in general and I'm not really a fan of writing so this class will teach my a lot and learn about being new to college at the same time. I didn't take a writing class my senior year in high school I only took a sports literature class and we did not have to write anything substantial. When I am asked to write about something I usually start with making a list and thinking about how I am going to start. Sometimes on the computer, sticky notes, lined paper, on my phone, or just thinking about it in my head it just depends on the topic. Starting a piece of writing or essay is always the hardest for me only because sometimes I don't have a lot of time to brainstorm so I feel rushed in my thoughts. I enjoy writing about others. I mean I like to learn about something totally new and expand my knowledge of the world that I take part in everyday. I also enjoy writing about topics that I already have some prior knowledge on, mostly including sports but also about traveling and using the different states that sports has taken me to, to write about something I remember. Speaking of remembering I also am a note taker and I have little notes everywhere, because I have so much going on and I never can remember it all. Sometimes though I don't even remember where I put the notes at so that gets interesting. I am a writer who contemplates a lot before beginning and sometimes my thoughts take me to other projects and it's hard to finish the writing. I am a writer who wishes they could have more time to reflect upon the day and journal about the daily activities that sometimes get taken for granted. I write about as much as I can remember and whenever I have time. I write when I am traveling in the car, on the bus, or in the computer lab when I have to. I write with my computer, pens, markers, paints and sometimes I write with my thoughts in the air at night. Everyday you write your own story, some actually write it down, and some don't want to remember about their past. Some people have a story written about them and some write there own. I want to learn how to love to write and learn how to write so that others are interested also even if it is not the most interesting topic to everyone. I enjoy that there is so much to write about and everyone can something that they are passionate about and just sit down and write, it can be a universal hobby and bring people together with similar writing interests.

I love the phrase "i sometimes write my thoughts in the air!" What cool image and profound thought! For someone who claims not to like writing that much, you seem to do quite a bit of it. I really enjoyed reading about your writng process--it sounds very simillar to mine! Using sticky notes as a pre-writing stratagy is a great one! It's great that y ou are already so aware of your process--this will help you a lot throughout your college writing.
